Dr. Sujeong Kim began her clinical career as a neonatal intensive care unit nurse at Samsung Medical Center. Recognizing the structural and educational challenges in pediatric palliative care, she pursued a PhD at the University of Illinois at Chicago and subsequently served as an Assistant Professor at Seattle University College of Nursing. Her work has encompassed simulation-based education, online learning, and competency-building programs for healthcare professionals, alongside a strong focus on research and policy development in palliative care. She has published extensively in high-impact international journals on neonatal and pediatric palliative care, nurses’ moral distress, family experiences at the end of life, and education programs for clinicians.

Currently, Dr. Kim serves as the Deputy Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Palliative Care Training in the Western Pacific Region. She is also a Board Member of the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN) and the Director for International Affairs of the Korean Society for Hospice and Palliative Care. In these roles, she actively contributes to the development of international palliative care networks and quality-improvement initiatives and remains deeply engaged in healthcare professional training. In addition, she serves as an external consultant for the WHO–IAEA–IARC imPACT Review, contributing to national palliative care assessments in Mongolia and Cambodia and supporting policy development and workforce capacity building across multiple Asian countries.

Dr. Kim has secured competitive research funding from the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Korean Nurses Association, KOICA, the University of Illinois, and the Catholic University of Korea. She is currently leading a major five-year project funded through the Outstanding Young Scientist Program (2025–2030), developing a big-data–driven AI clinical decision support platform for pediatric palliative care. She also leads multiple national and regional projects, including studies on opioid accessibility in the Asia-Pacific region, analyses of Vietnam’s palliative care system, and research on child- and family-centered care experiences.

Through her contributions across education, research, policy, and international collaboration, Professor Kim has played a significant role in strengthening palliative care capacity, advancing nursing expertise, and improving the quality of care for children and neonates in Korea and the Western Pacific region.
